Location – Oldham

Hours – 20 hours

Salary – Minimum £7.87 per hour

Our founder created Community Transport in 1964 with a small band of volunteers who were passionate about their local community and eager to try and support, and what an impact they had!

Fast forward 50 years as we continue to be an integral part of numerous communities through the west midlands and north east, with our team of over 150 employees and volunteers. Our founders’ passion remains true as we continue to provide affordable furniture and household goods, accessible transport and are continuously up-skilling the community with training.

The service we provide is invaluable to so many people in our community and we need your help to continue to provide it.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will operate all auxiliary equipment fitted to vehicles such as lifts, ramps, steps, radios, wheel chair harnesses and restraints and cab heaters, the removal and replacement of seating where necessary etc in a safe and proper manner.
  • You will ensure passengers are embarked, carried and disembarked safely. That appropriate seat belts and when required child seats are used at all times the vehicle is in motion and that any wheelchairs, frames, oxygen cylinders, luggage and goods are properly and safely restrained.
  • You will provide excellent customer service and the highest standard of care and consideration in transporting our passengers in a safe and responsible manner.
  • You will provide cover for passenger assistants as required
  • You will be responsible for meeting the legal requirements of Road Traffic Regulations, the use of tachographs (where relevant) and all other aspects of Road Transport legislation.
  • You will ensure that vehicles are cleaned on a regular basis (inside and out), kept free of debris with clamps and straps stowed away when not in use.

Person Specification

  • Current driving licence with D1 (101) entitlement, as shown on the back of your driving licence (max. 3 points)
  • Experience of driving minibuses and/or larger vehicles
  • Resilient and able to perform in a pressurised environment whilst acting as a influential team player
  • Ability to respect client confidentiality
  • Motivated to work towards creating a safe, open and trusting environment
  • Awareness of Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection Issues and the boundaries of professional relationships
  • Being prepared to work flexibly to meet the needs of the business including unsocial hours, such as weekends, mornings and evenings
  • Satisfactory DBS enhanced disclosure check
