Location – Oldham

Hours – 8:30am – 3:30pm

Salary – TBC


Purpose of Post:

  • Responsible for leading the 2-5 years Room team.
  •  Safeguarding children ensuring excellent high quality childcare and planned activities appropriate to the age and development of the children.
  • Take an active role within the senior management team.
  • To provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children place in the setting.
  • To give support to their staff within the setting.
  • To work as part of a team in order to provide an enabling environment in which all individual children can play, develop and learn.
  • To build and maintain strong partnership working with parents to enable children’s needs to be met.

Nursery Manager

Main Duties:

  • To assist nursery team in providing a friendly, caring and relaxing environment in order to encourage and develop children in our care.
  • To work within and maintain the context of the whole Nursery team and as a member of the University community.
  • To supervise staff and students in training and maintain a proactive and professional team.
  • To ensure all daily routines are adhered to and records kept up to date.
  • To maintain staffing levels, arranging cover when needed.
  • To plan and carry out activities in line with the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage, Setting the Standards for Learning, Development and Care for children from birth to five, ensuring they meet with the Early Learning Goals.
  • Further develop ‘free flow’ play.
  • Ensure assessments/evaluations are regularly completed.
  • Ensure children get the best start in life by working in close partnership with parents/carers to develop independence, confidence and self esteem, building children’s resilience and well being.
  • Support staff development and work closely with other staff and professionals.
  • To support the manager in conduct 1:1’s and annual Staff Development and Performance Reviews.
  • To communicate with parents and other visitors in a calm, friendly and efficient manner.
  • To oversee an effective key worker system.
  • To liaise with Manager to provide a smooth transition for children.
  • To ensure your specific duties regarding Health and Safety and fire procedures are understood and actioned.
  • To attend management meetings.
  • To undertake monthly staff meetings outside normal working hours when necessary. 18. To organise parent/keyworker and 2-5 years Room staff meetings.
  • Responsible for opening and closing of the Nursery.
  • Assist the Manager and in the management and leadership of a diverse staff team.
  • To keep abreast of current issues and attend training as necessary.
  • To carry out any ad hoc projects or duties as requested by your Manager.

In addition to the above carry out the normal working duties of a nursery practitioner as set out below.

  • To effectively deliver the EYFS ensuring that the individual needs and interest of children in the setting are met (in conjunction with other team members)
  • To keep records of your key children’s development and learning journeys and share with parents, carers and other key adults in the child’s life.
  • Support all staff and engage in a good staff team.
  • To develop and maintain strong partnerships and communication with parents/carers to facilitate day-to-day caring and early learning needs.
  • To ensure the provision of a high quality environment to meet the needs of individual children having an awareness of any disabilities, family cultures and medical histories.
  • To advise manager/deputy of any concerns, e.g. over children, parents, the safety of the environment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.
  • To be involved in out of working hours activities, e.g. training, monthly staff meetings, summer fair etc.
  • To be flexible within working practices of the setting, undertaking other responsible duties where needed, such as domestic tasks, preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment, etc.
  • To work alongside the manager and staff team to ensure that the setting’s philosophy is fulfilled.
  • To read, understand and adhere to all policies and procedures relevant to your role and the safe running of the setting.
  • To develop your role within the team, especially with regard to being a key person.
  • To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff that is acquired as part of the job.
  • To be aware of the high profile of the setting and to uphold its standards at all times, both in work hours and outside.
  • To support nursery assistants, students and volunteers.
  • To ensure good standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times.
  • To undertake and lead on additional responsibilities such as SENCO, training co-ordinator, safeguarding Officer etc
